Updated 8 October 2026 by Canggu Bike

Short answer

Wear a fastened helmet, closed shoes, and light clothing that covers your legs and arms if you can. Add sunglasses, sunscreen and a rain poncho in the wet season. Avoid flip-flops, which cause many foot injuries.

The essentials

  • A helmet, fastened every time. It is mandatory for the rider and the passenger.
  • Closed shoes with grip.
  • Light long trousers or at least knee-length shorts.
  • A light long-sleeved top if you can, for sun and for protection.

Sun and heat

  • Sunscreen on your face, neck and arms.
  • Sunglasses or a visor.
  • A light, breathable fabric.
  • Water for long rides.

Rain

Keep a poncho on the bike. Choose shoes you do not mind getting wet, and put your phone and documents in a waterproof bag.

What to avoid

  • Flip-flops and open sandals.
  • Loose scarves or bags that can catch in the wheels.
  • A helmet that is loose or not fastened.
